The film marks Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi’s sophomore feature behind the camera, following the addiction drama Doe.
Kid Cudi is back in the director’s chair. Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi has revealed his second directorial effort, Wrong Number, a horror thriller currently shooting in Los Angeles in which he also stars opposite Barbie Ferreira.
The film follows Ibn (Mescudi), a lonely self-help author whose unexpected romance with a mysterious woman named Eliza (Ferreira) spirals into a nightmare when he becomes the target of an unseen stalker and the prime suspect in a string of murders.
Joining Mescudi and Ferreira in the cast are Clifton Powell, Laura Harrier, Dewayne Perkins, and Lucy Barrett.
Mescudi wrote and is directing the film, and executive produces alongside Karina Manashil under their Mad Solar banner. Mark Webber, Anthony Baldino, and Ryan Lacen are producing, reuniting with Mescudi after his debut feature “Doe.” Skyler Zurn of Obsession is handling casting, and Mescudi is composing the film’s score himself.
“A lot of people know that I’m a huge horror buff. And it was only a matter of time before I’d jump into the genre myself with my own stories,” Mescudi said in a statement. “‘Wrong Number’ is a fun ride, an original story that has all the elements of an epic horror thriller, and I can’t wait for you all to experience it. So thankful to have this amazing cast and team with me on this wild journey. There will be blood!!”
Mescudi is aiming to release both of his directorial efforts next year. His debut, “Doe,” explores addiction and survival on the streets of Los Angeles and stars Mescudi alongside Mark Webber, Leah McNamara, Brandon Scott, and Brandon Perea.
“Directing my second film in a year is unreal,” Mescudi said. “I’m learning more and more each day and I’m just ready for the challenge. I’m hyped to see people become fans of my filmmaking in the same ways they are with my music. I’m putting the industry on notice, Mad Solar bout to shake it up.”
Mescudi’s recent screen credits include “Happy Gilmore 2,” M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap,” Paramount+’s “Knuckles,” and John Woo’s “Silent Night.” He’ll next appear opposite Willow Smith in the animated feature “Slime.”
