Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for season three of Foundation, its epic sci-fi drama based on Isaac Asimov’s legendary book series. The third season, premiering globally on Friday, July 11, continues the sweeping saga of survival, revolution, and power struggles across galaxies. Created by David S. Goyer, the series explores the tension between fate and free will through the lens of psychohistory, a mathematical theory that predicts the future of large populations.
Set 152 years after the events of season two, the new season finds the Foundation more entrenched than ever as a galactic force, while the Cleonic Empire continues to crumble. With both sides forced into an uneasy alliance, a new threat emerges in the form of The Mule—a mind-controlling warlord with ambitions to dominate the universe. Played by Game of Thrones alum Pilou Asbæk, The Mule’s arrival threatens to destabilize everything visionary mathematician Hari Seldon had once predicted.
Season three features the return of Jared Harris as Hari Seldon, Lee Pace as Brother Day, Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick, and Laura Birn as Demerzel. They are joined once again by Cassian Bilton and Terrence Mann, who reprise their roles as the cloned Cleons. Rowena King also returns this season.
The upcoming season also introduces a wave of new characters portrayed by Brandon P. Bell, Cherry Jones, Troy Kotsur, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, and Alexander Siddig, adding new complexity and political intrigue to the already dense world of Foundation. Their arrival coincides with shifting allegiances and power struggles as old enemies must work together to stop a shared threat.
Foundation is produced by Skydance Television for Apple TV+ and remains under the creative direction of David S. Goyer, who also serves as executive producer alongside Bill Bost, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell, Robyn Asimov, David Kob, Christopher J. Byrne, Leigh Dana Jackson, Jane Espenson, and Roxann Dawson.
The ten-episode season will debut weekly on Apple TV+ starting July 11, with new episodes every Friday. For viewers who prefer to binge, the full season will be available to stream in its entirety on September 12, 2025.
The trailer makes it clear that the introduction of The Mule changes everything—turning the intergalactic chess match between the Foundation and Empire into a desperate fight for survival. As the trailer teases, “The future is worth fighting for.” And based on these new visuals and returning dynamics, season three is gearing up to be the series’ most intense yet.
