Disney Dropped the ‘Freakier Friday’ Teaser Trailer—And the Chaos Has Doubled

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back for another body-swapping disaster—but this time, they’re not the only ones getting caught in the mix.

Disney just dropped the teaser trailer for Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel to the 2003 classic Freaky Friday, and let’s just say things are about to get a whole lot messier. Not only are Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) switching places again, but now Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter are caught up in the madness too. That’s four people swapping bodies. Twice the chaos, twice the comedy, and probably twice the life lessons.

And yes, if Disney is sticking to tradition, this is all going down on a Friday.

The sequel picks up years after Tess and Anna’s original identity crisis, but now Anna is all grown up with a teenage daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons). Just when she thought her body-swapping days were behind her, the universe said, “Nah, let’s run that back.”

Next thing you know, a freak lightning strike shakes things up—literally—and suddenly, Tess is in Lily’s body, Anna is in Harper’s, and vice versa. That’s four generations worth of personality clashes, embarrassing moments, and awkward realizations in one house. Because, let’s be real, body-swapping never goes smoothly.

In case you needed another dose of nostalgia, Chad Michael Murray is back as Jake, pulling up on a motorcycle like it’s still 2003. The trailer even gives him the slow-motion, helmet-removing, hair-flipping entrance.

But don’t get too excited about a rekindled romance—Anna has moved on and is now married to Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, Top Gun: Maverick).

In addition to Curtis, Lohan, and Murray, several familiar faces from the original film are making a comeback, including:

  • Mark Harmon (Ryan)
  • Christina Vidal Mitchell (Maddie)
  • Haley Hudson (Peg)
  • Rosalind Chao (Pei-Pei)
  • Lucille Soong (Pei-Pei’s Mom)
  • Stephen Tobolowsky (Mr. Bates)

They’re joined by some fresh faces, including Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Sophia Hammons (Under Wraps), Jordan E. Cooper (The Ms. Pat Show), and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever).

If you were an early 2000s kid, you already know what we’re about to say—Anna’s got a guitar in her hands again. The trailer teases Lohan getting back into rockstar mode, which means we might be seeing a Pink Slip reunion. And if that means we’re getting a 2024 version of Ultimate, then honestly, we’ve already won.

Disney is bringing the multigenerational chaos to theaters on August 8, just in time to celebrate 22 years of the original film.

So yeah, lightning does strike twice—whether they’re ready for it or not.
