Omar Sy Finds Love in First Look at Netflix’s French Lover

Netflix France is bringing romance to the screen with French Lover, a new romantic comedy starring Omar Sy. Known for his roles in Lupin and Untouchable, Sy takes on a fresh challenge in this film—one that sees him stepping into the world of love and laughter, a departure from his past characters who haven’t had the best luck in romance.

In French Lover, Sy plays an A-list actor who unexpectedly falls for a girl-next-door, played by Sara Giraudeau. The film also stars Pascale Arbillot, Alban Ivanov, and Agnès Hurstel.

The project marks the feature directorial debut of Lisa-Nina Rives, who previously collaborated with Sy as a second unit director on Lupin. Production is handled by Zazi Films, Federation Studio France, and Korokoro Productions, with TF1 also involved. While Netflix has yet to announce a release date, anticipation is already building.

Beyond French Lover, Netflix France has a stacked lineup for 2025. Upcoming local productions include Alain Chabat’s 3D animated series Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight, the third installment of Guillaume Pierret’s high-octane Lost Bullet trilogy, and Nero, an adventure series starring Pio Marmaï.

“Our priority for 2025 is to become the benchmark for entertainment in France and to continue to support and develop French creative talent,” said Pauline Dauvin, Netflix’s Vice President of Content.

With Sy’s star power and a fresh spin on romance, French Lover is shaping up to be one of Netflix France’s most intriguing releases next year.
