From Tinder to Bumble: Hulu’s ‘Swiped’ Trailer Chronicles Whitney Wolfe Herd’s Journey

Hulu has dropped the first trailer for Swiped, a biographical drama chronicling the turbulent journey of Whitney Wolfe Herd, the visionary behind Bumble. Lily James steps into the role of Wolfe Herd, capturing her fight to change the landscape of online dating after a contentious split from Tinder.

Alongside James, the cast also includes Myha’la, Pierson Fodé, Clea DuVall, Ben Schnetzer, Pedro Correa, Ian Colleti, Coral Peña, Jackson White,  and Joely Fisher. Dan Stevens stars as Andrey Andreev, the Russian tech entrepreneur who invested in Bumble’s launch. Swiped will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9 before debuting on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally on September 19, 2025.

The Story

Inspired by Wolfe Herd’s real-life trajectory, Swiped explores her time as a co-founder of Tinder, where the app’s explosive popularity came with darker consequences—most notably, women facing harassment through unsolicited explicit messages and photos.

“There’s an article about how pervasive the dick pics are,” one female coworker warns James’ Whitney in the trailer, capturing the urgency of the issue. As she tries to push back, her male colleagues dismiss the problem and ultimately push her out of the company she helped build.

Refusing to be silenced, Wolfe Herd sets out to create her own app with a revolutionary rule: women send the first message. That decision birthed Bumble, which not only disrupted the online dating market but helped Wolfe Herd become one of the youngest self-made female billionaires when the company went public in 2021.

Cast & Crew

The film is directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg (Unpregnant, Valley Girl, Minx), with a screenplay penned by Goldenberg, Bill Parker, and Kim Caramele. Lily James also serves as a producer alongside Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, with 20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment backing the project.

With sharp commentary on misogyny in tech and the power of women reclaiming their agency, Swiped is set to spark conversation just as much as it entertains.
