Gabrielle Union is heading to Italy for her next big-screen adventure. The actress is set to star opposite Michele Morrone (365 Days) in Blame It On Rome, the new English-language romantic comedy currently filming in Rome.
The project comes from Colorado Film, Nebraska, and Amazon MGM Studios, with Italian filmmaker Francesco Carrozzini (Supersex) directing and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith (Legally Blonde) and Jessica O’Toole (Jane the Virgin) penning the script.
Union plays Billie, a driven New York art executive who travels to Rome to secure a major painting for her company. But when her fiancé admits he’s in love with someone else, Billie’s carefully planned life collapses — the relationship ends, the deal falls apart, and her job disappears.
Instead of retreating home, she stays in Rome and gives herself permission to finally live. What begins as a spontaneous escape leads to late-night adventures, new friendships, and a series of romantic detours. Things take a turn when Billie discovers she’s pregnant. Unsure of the father, she hires private investigator Tommaso (Morrone) to help her piece together the truth. As the two navigate the Eternal City, their early friction slowly transforms into real connection.
The film boasts an accomplished creative team behind the scenes: Oscar-nominated costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini, David di Donatello-winning cinematographer Vladan Radovic, and production designer Giuliano Pannuti, a Nastro d’Argento nominee.
Union’s upcoming slate includes the Sony animated film GOAT, the comedy-horror Forbidden Fruits, and the true-story drama Casket Girls. She also recently starred in Amazon’s Space Cadet and the action-comedy Riff Raff.
Morrone continues building his relationship with Amazon after appearing in Another Simple Favor. He next stars in Paul Feig’s thriller The Housemaid alongside Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
