Peacock is building out its mystery slate with a fresh whodunit centered on friendship, power, and secrets in the heart of West Hollywood.
The streamer is developing a new series titled Keep Your Friends Close, with writer and executive producer Leo Richardson attached to spearhead the project. The series is being produced by Peacock, with Garcelle Beauvais also on board as an executive producer alongside FilmNation. Universal Television will serve as the studio.
The series logline sets up a classic suburban mystery with a Hollywood twist: when the president of the West Hollywood Mom’s Club is found murdered, every member of the group becomes a suspect. A jaded detective is brought in and quickly realizes that beneath the polished friendships and social obligations, everyone is hiding something — and anyone could be the killer.
Richardson, who most recently served as co-executive producer on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, continues to build an increasingly busy slate. His past TV credits include work on You, Katy Keene, Star, and the long-running BBC soap EastEnders. He is also developing multiple projects across international markets, including the ITV/43 dramedy Marbs and Amazon UK YA series Nightshade, alongside Keep Your Friends Close.
For Beauvais, this marks another step deeper into producing while continuing her on-screen career. Garcelle Beauvais recently executive produced and starred in Lifetime films including Terry McMillan Presents: Tempted 2 Love and Taken at a Truck Stop: A Black Girl Missing Movie. She will next return as Natasha in the final season of Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest.
Beauvais’ long career spans iconic TV roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters, and The Jamie Foxx Show, as well as film appearances in Coming 2 America, Spider-Man: Homecoming, White House Down, and Barbershop 2: Back in Business.
With Beauvais’ producing momentum and Richardson’s growing slate of international projects, Keep Your Friends Close is shaping up to be another character-driven mystery in Peacock’s expanding original lineup.
