Gbenga Akinnagbe Joins Aaron Sorkin’s ‘The Social Reckoning’, the Follow-Up to ‘The Social Network’

Gbenga Akinnagbe has joined the cast of The Social Reckoning, Sony’s highly anticipated follow-up to The Social Network.

Serving as a companion piece to the Oscar-winning 2010 film, The Social Reckoning explores the real-life story of Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison), a Facebook engineer who becomes one of the most prominent whistleblowers in tech history. Haugen teams up with journalist Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) of The Wall Street Journal to expose the platform’s most closely guarded secrets—launching a high-stakes mission that challenges one of the most powerful companies in the world.

Character details for Akinnagbe’s role remain under wraps. The actor joins a strong ensemble that includes Wunmi Mosaku, Jeremy Strong, Bill Burr, Billy Magnussen, Betty Gilpin, Anna Lambe, and A House of Dynamite breakout star Mikey Madison.

Aaron Sorkin—who penned the original film—returns to both write and direct, with Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin, and Stuart Besser producing. The Social Reckoning is slated to hit theaters on October 9, 2026.

Akinnagbe, known for his work in The Wire and The Deuce, currently stars in Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite and the FX drama The Old Man. He will next appear in Chicago Med.

Originally released in 2010, The Social Network—directed by David Fincher and starring Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg—became a cultural landmark for its portrayal of ambition, betrayal, and the rise of social media. Sorkin’s sharp script earned him an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, while the film itself earned eight nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

With its legacy of incisive storytelling and its exploration of power in the digital age, The Social Reckoning stands as one of the most anticipated projects of 2026.
