The wait is over. After years of rumors, teases, and wishful thinking, Adam Sandler is finally bringing Happy Gilmore back for another round on the green—complete with wild swings, killer putts, and, of course, a side of anger issues.
Sandler has been stacking his Netflix roster for a minute now—whether it’s with comedies like Murder Mystery and Hubie Halloween, or more serious projects like Hustle and Spaceman. But now, Netflix is delivering the one sequel that actually has longtime fans screaming: Happy Gilmore 2. Yep, 28 years after Happy first turned the golf world upside down, he’s back to shake up the greens again. And the first teaser? It’s giving nostalgia, laughs, and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Waterboy crossover.
The movie is packed with familiar faces. Christopher McDonald is back in villain mode as Shooter McGavin. Julie Bowen returns as Happy’s ride-or-die, Virginia. And though we don’t catch an unbelievably quick glimpse of him, Ben Stiller is reprising his role as Hal. Oh, and in case you missed the news—Benny Safdie (yes, one half of the Uncut Gems masterminds) is also in the mix. Scott Mescudi, Kym Whitley, Bad Bunny, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, and Nick Swardson round out the cast.
Directing duties fall to Kyle Newacheck (Murder Mystery, What We Do in the Shadows), while Sandler and his longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy return as screenwriters—so expect all the ridiculous, slapstick energy of the original.
If you thought Happy was the only Sandler sports icon making a return, think again. Eagle-eyed fans caught The Waterboy’s very own Farmer Fran (Blake Clark) in the teaser—bare-chested, in all his nipple-pinching glory. Now, whether he’s actually playing Farmer Fran or just giving us a wink-wink cameo remains to be seen, but either way, the nostalgia levels just shot through the roof.
Netflix is teeing up Happy Gilmore 2 for a July 25 release, so if you haven’t dusted off your golf clubs in a while, now’s the time. Whether you’re here for the classic Sandler chaos, the rematch with Shooter, or just to see how many golf balls Happy can send into the crowd this time, one thing’s for sure—it’s going to be a wild swing.
