Lil Rel Howery is stepping into the director’s chair for the first time with Haunted Heist, a horror-comedy he’s also set to star in. Howery, celebrated for his versatility in both comedy and horror, will star alongside Tiffany Haddish, marking another reunion for the two who previously collaborated on The Carmichael Show, Uncle Drew, and their Best Friends Comedy Tour in 2023.

Written by Carl Reid, the screenwriter behind Hulu’s recent horror film Mr. Crocket, Haunted Heist brings together four estranged friends under a unique premise. The group gathers at what appears to be an ordinary house, only to learn that one friend has an ulterior motive: he needs their help to steal an antique worth a fortune. However, the plot thickens when they realize the house is haunted. As they confront an onslaught of supernatural threats, they’re forced to put their differences aside to survive the night and the ghosts that come with it.
Set to begin production in January 2025, Haunted Heist will be introduced for global distribution sales by The Coven at the American Film Market in Las Vegas this week. This is the second project for The Coven, which recently produced the Canadian exorcism thriller Shadow of God. The production team includes Death Ground’s Josh Feldman and Sean King O’Grady, known for their work on The Mill and Mr. Crocket, along with Robinwood7’s Feras Majid Shammami and Jesse Ford. Priscilla Ross Smith and Kendall Anlian are on board as executive producers.
Reflecting on the project, Howery shared, “I’m so excited to be working on this project in front and behind the camera. It’s going to be so much fun.” The Coven’s Priscilla Smith added, “We are always looking for something fun and fresh. The best Saturday night movie that an audience could hope for. Haddish and Howery will knock this out of the park.”
With Haunted Heist, Howery is set to deliver a fresh take on horror-comedy, blending laughter and scares into what promises to be an entertaining experience.
