HBO’s Rooster has added five guest stars to its second season: Lamorne Morris, O-T Fagbenle, Zavior Phillips, Sutton Foster, and Michael Urie, Variety reports. Morris plays Caleb, Fagbenle plays Hayes, Phillips plays Sam, Foster plays Marti, and Urie plays Larry. Details about the characters themselves have not yet been made public.
Set at Ludlow College, Rooster follows author Greg Russo, played by Steve Carell, who visits the campus for a guest lecture in Season 1 and ends up accepting a visiting professorship from college president Walter Mann, played by John C. McGinley, largely to stay close to his daughter Katie, played by Charly Clive, an art history professor navigating a complicated marriage to Russian studies professor Archie Bates, played by Phil Dunster, despite her wishing her father would let her handle things on her own. The series also stars Danielle Deadwyler as Dylan Shepherd, Lauren Tsai as Sunny Salewski, Annie Mumolo as Cristle, Maximo Salas as Tommy, and Rory Scovel as Officer Donnie Mullins, with Connie Britton guest starring as Elizabeth Stoddard.
Morris’s casting continues a steady run of high-profile television work following his roles in New Girl, Fargo, and Spider-Noir, adding another ensemble comedy credit to a career that’s moved fluidly between broadcast comedy and prestige drama. Fagbenle, known for The Handmaid’s Tale and Presumed Innocent, brings a similarly genre-spanning résumé to the role of Hayes.
Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses serve as co-showrunners, with Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer executive producing through Doozer Productions, alongside Tarses, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Hyman, and Carell. Warner Bros. Television produces the series in association with Doozer. Production on Season 2 is currently underway.
With five new guest stars now confirmed and character details still under wraps, the next thing to watch is how each of these roles gets folded into the show’s central campus storyline once Season 2 premieres.
