Idris Elba To Direct Nigeria-Set Film ‘Dust To Dreams’ For Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films`

Idris Elba will direct the upcoming short film ‘Dust To Dreams,’starring singer Seal, Nollywood stars Nse Ikpe-Etim and Eku Edewor, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, and former Nigerian Idol contestant Constance Olatunde.

“Dust To Dreams” is a collaboration between Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films and the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) through its Creative Africa Nexus (Canex) initiative. Set in Lagos, Nigeria, the film explores the relationship between a mother and her teenage daughter as they navigate meeting the father for the first time.

“Idris Elba’s involvement brings a fresh perspective to our project,” said Mo Abudu, the creator of the film. “His passion for storytelling aligns perfectly with our vision for ‘Dust To Dreams.'”

Abudu will also serve as both executive producer and producer, with Heidi Uys as the supervising producer. Other producers include Temidayo Makanjuola, Inem King, and Vanessa Demme.

Seal, a multi-Grammy winner and former judge on “America’s Got Talent,” joins the cast, drawing on his Nigerian heritage for authenticity. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this project,” Seal commented. “It’s an opportunity to explore my roots and contribute to a meaningful story.”

Elba, a Golden Globe winner, continues his commitment to African talent after his directorial debut with the 2018 film “Yardie.” “I’m excited to collaborate with Mo Abudu and the talented team behind ‘Dust To Dreams,'” Elba stated. “This project resonates with me on a personal level.”

The collaboration between EbonyLife Films and Afreximbank underscores a shared vision to empower Africa’s creative economy. “We are dedicated to supporting the continent’s creative industries,” emphasized Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of Afreximbank.
