Paramount+ Drops Trailer and Premiere Date for ‘Knuckles’: Sonic the Hedgehog Spinoff Series Led By Idris Elba

Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for “Knuckles,” the Sonic the Hedgehog TV spinoff, featuring Idris Elba in the titular role and Adam Pally reprising his character, Wade Whipple. The streaming service confirmed the release date for all six episodes as April 26 on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada, with additional territories following on April 27 and a Japan release later in the year.

Set between Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Sonic The Hedgehog 3, the live-action series explores Knuckles’ (Elba) journey of self-discovery as he mentors Wade (Pally) in the ways of the Echidna warrior. The ensemble cast includes Stockard Channing, Edi Patterson, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Julian Barratt, Rory McCann, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel. Ben Schwartz and Tika Sumpter make special guest appearances, with Colleen O’Shaughnessey returning as Tails.

Directed by Jeff Fowler, the series brings back the key creative team from the films, including executive producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington, and Toru Nakahara. Idris Elba also serves as an executive producer. The global success of Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog 2, with a combined box office of $725.2 million, emphasizes the franchise’s popularity.

Paramount+ will exclusively stream “Knuckles” in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Latin America, Australia, South Korea, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Japan. Additionally, the series will be available on SkyShowtime in the Nordics, the Netherlands, Spain, and Central and Eastern Europe. Paramount Global Content Distribution handles distribution.

As part of the Sonic universe expansion, “Knuckles” promises an engaging addition to the franchise, and fans can anticipate its release on Paramount+ on April 26, followed by Super Bowl LVIII showcasing a TV spot for the series.
