“Project Greenlight” is back with a new season, and this time, it’s putting the spotlight on all-female directors. The reality series, originally produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, ran on HBO and Bravo from 2001 to 2005, with a brief return in 2015. Now, Issa Rae and her production company HOORAE are taking the reins.

Streaming on Max starting July 13, the new season of “Project Greenlight” will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the entire filmmaking process, from the first day to the last. Serving as mentors throughout the season are Issa Rae, Kumail Nanjiani, and Gina Prince-Bythewood.

The featured film of this season is a Max original called “Gray Matter,” directed by Meko Winbush, who emerges as the winner of the competition. Making her directorial debut, Winbush brings the sci-fi thriller to life with a script written by Phil Gelatt. “Gray Matter” revolves around the story of Ayla and Aurora, a superhuman mother-daughter duo. Ayla tries to guide her daughter in controlling her abilities, but when tragedy strikes, her past resurfaces to haunt her.

Expressing her gratitude, Meko Winbush shares, “I was fortunate to have an incredible team supporting me – a dream cast and crew who understood the vision and gave their all to bring the story to life. Having Issa Rae, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Kumail Nanjiani as mentors was invaluable. Winning ‘Project Greenlight’ was beyond my expectations, and I hope to inspire other young filmmakers.”

The trailer for “Project Greenlight” sets the stage for the exciting competition, while the trailer for “Gray Matter” teases the gripping storyline. Both will be available for streaming on Max starting July 13.

“Project Greenlight: A New Generation” is exclusively available for streaming on the Max platform. Subscriptions to Max range from $9.99 to $19.99 per month. Alternatively, you can add Max as an additional channel through platforms such as Hulu, Prime Video, and YouTube TV.
