HBO has dropped the teaser for JAŸ-Z In 8, an eight-part documentary series directed by Rick Rubin, set to debut this fall on HBO and stream on Max.
The series finds Rubin sitting down with JAŸ-Z to discuss his music, lyrics, life experiences and creative process. The two have history together, with Rubin producing 99 Problems for The Black Album in 2003. In the teaser, JAŸ-Z reflects on his ability to translate shared experiences into art. “Everyone had the same experience, except I was the one that could stand on the soapbox and articulate what we were going through,” he says. The clip is soundtracked by Can’t Knock the Hustle, the third single from Reasonable Doubt.
JAŸ-Z In 8 is executive produced by Shawn Carter, Daniel Kaluuya and Rubin, with Leila Mattimore and David Rohde serving as producers. It is a Tetragrammaton production for HBO Documentary Films.
The announcement arrives during a milestone year for JAŸ-Z, who is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. He headlined the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia in May and is set to take over Yankee Stadium for three nights in July, dedicating separate evenings to each album before closing the run with a hits set. He has also announced Jay-Z 30 concerts in Paris on September 10 and Los Angeles on October 23.
A premiere date for JAŸ-Z IN 8 has not yet been announced.
