Another murder, another season, and another incredible addition to the Only Murders in the Building guestbook.
Jermaine Fowler is the latest name to join the growing list of season 5’s recurring cast for Hulu’s hit murder-mystery comedy. And if the lineup wasn’t stacked enough already, he joins previously announced heavy-hitters Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, Téa Leoni, Keegan-Michael Key, and Logan Lerman.
Per usual, the details of Fowler’s character are hush-hush, and in classic Only Murders fashion, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Half the fun is the guessing game, and if you know this show, you know every new character brings a little chaos with them.
Fowler’s addition is right on brand for a series that’s mastered the art of clever storytelling wrapped in big laughs and even bigger cameos. He’s no stranger to comedy himself — most recently seen in Prime Video’s Ricky Stanicky and FX’s A Murder at the End of the World. Up next, you’ll catch him opposite Tracy Morgan in Paramount+’s Crutch and in the indie horror-thriller Night Patrol. Man stays booked and busy.
As for the main trio — Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez — they’re all back and on the case once again, alongside Michael Cyril Creighton. This time around, they’re digging into the murder of Lester (played by Teddy Coluca), the beloved Arconia doorman who’s been around since the beginning. Production is already underway in New York, and if the season 4 finale was any indication, we’re in for a layered mystery with more twists than a bag of pretzels.
Speaking of last season, the guest list was already star-studded — Meryl Streep returned, joined by Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Molly Shannon. The series also snagged its first SAG Award for Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series — a well-deserved nod to its perfectly offbeat cast.
Only Murders in the Building has been running laps in the comedy-mystery lane since its 2021 debut, and season five looks like it’s keeping that same winning energy. No premiere date yet, but if production is underway now, we wouldn’t be surprised to find ourselves back at the Arconia before the year is out.
Keep your eyes peeled — and maybe your magnifying glasses handy. Something tells us this season’s whodunit is going to be one for the books.
