Two of Broadway’s most celebrated talents are taking their act to YouTube. Jordan E. Cooper and Kara Young have premiered The Ppl Police, a six-episode scripted micro-comedy now streaming on the platform.
The series stars Cooper and Young as Ross and Pumpkin, two friends who set themselves up as a community alternative to the police force, reporting for duty to handle domestic and neighborhood disputes across New York City. Each episode runs about five minutes and finds the duo navigating increasingly chaotic situations, from cheating spouses locked out naked to a father-son stabbing, with unconventional methods that may not make them the most qualified people for the job, but as the show puts it, still better than the alternative.
Cooper created the series and executive produces through his company Cookout Entertainment alongside Karynrose Bruyning. Daelight Media also serves as executive producer.
Cooper is a Tony-nominated actor, playwright and director who made history in 2022 as the youngest Black American playwright on Broadway with Ain’t No Mo’, which received six Tony nominations. He also became the youngest showrunner in television history with BET+’s The Ms. Pat Show and can currently be seen in the feature film Freakier Friday.
Young is a two-time Tony Award winner, taking home the prize for her performances in Purpose and Purlie Victorious. She recently appeared in Prime Video’s I’m a Virgo and has upcoming roles in Is God Is and I Love Boosters.
