Lifetime has announced Sole Survivor of Flight 119, starring Joy Bryant and Sarah Wayne Callies, as part of its Strength of a Lifetime September movie event. The film premieres Saturday, September 19 at 8/7c.
Inspired by actual events and Tammy L. Kling’s memoir Exit Row, the film follows two women whose lives become unexpectedly intertwined in the aftermath of a devastating plane crash. Lisa Foster, played by Callies, survives a crash deep in the Mexican jungle and must rely on her resourcefulness, inner strength and faith to endure the unforgiving wilderness and find her way home to her young daughter. Meanwhile Rebecca Till, played by Bryant, an airline executive who narrowly missed boarding Flight 119, is assigned to assist the families of the missing passengers. As Rebecca forms an unlikely bond with Lisa’s loved ones, a final text Lisa sent moments before the crash provides a breakthrough in the search, setting both women on an extraordinary journey that will challenge their beliefs and forever change their lives.
Directed by Steven A. Adelson from a teleplay by Ross Andrew Katz and Jane Espenson, Sole Survivor of Flight 119 is produced by All Canadian Entertainment for Lifetime. Brad Krevoy, Olivia Krevoy, Amy Hartwick, Ernie Barbarash, Amy Krell, Dattaguru Mahabal, Robert Bricker and Ross Andrew Katz executive produce.
The film is the second of three movies in Lifetime’s Strength of a Lifetime September event. The event kicks off September 12 with Robin Roberts Presents Angel in the Rubble: The Genelle Guzman Story, starring Sherri Shepherd and Dondré Whitfield, which recounts the true story of the last survivor pulled from Ground Zero on September 11. The event closes September 26 with The Ocean Between Them, starring Rebecca Gayheart and Jessica Lord, inspired by actual events and following a mother’s relentless search after her daughter disappears at sea during a vacation in Belize. Gayheart’s real-life daughter Georgia Dane also appears in the film.
