Keke Palmer’s KeyTV Network Drops Trailer for ‘Southern Fried Rice,’

Blavity’s Shadow and Act dropped the exclusive trailer debut for Southern Fried Rice, the new original series from Keke Palmer’s KeyTV Network, premiering October 22 with its first two episodes on KeyTV’s Facebook and YouTube.

Created and written by Nakia Stephens (Heaux & Tell, Nepotista) and directed by Shayla Racquel (Riverment), the series stars Page Yang, Kordell Beckham, Choyce Brown, Ashley India, Jada Lewis, and Shaun Rose.

Southern Fried Rice follows KoKo Johnson (Yang), a Korean-American girl raised from birth by her Southern Black parents. When she heads off to Wright University—an elite, fictional HBCU in Atlanta and her late father’s alma mater—KoKo steps into a new world that both embraces and challenges her. From being labeled a “culture vulture” to navigating friendship, love, and identity, KoKo must learn what it truly means to belong.

Beckham plays Steve, a spontaneous and magnetic music major whose artsy intellect and carefree energy make him one of KoKo’s most pivotal connections on campus.

The series is executive-produced by Keke Palmer, Sharon Palmer, Lenoria Addison, and Nakia Stephens, and produced by Shanay Jackson Campbell. It was filmed entirely in Atlanta.
