Kerry Washington to Star in and Executive Produce Netflix Thriller ‘An Innocent Girl’

Kerry Washington is set to executive produce and star in An Innocent Girl, a new psychological thriller from Jaume Collet-Serra for Netflix. James Marsden and Chloe East co-star in the project.

The film centers on a young, ambitious woman who becomes entangled with a powerful Washington, D.C. couple, drawing her into a dangerous world fueled by sex, influence, and murder. Collet-Serra will direct from a script by Michael Mohan and Marc Guggenheim, with current revisions by Carly Wray.

An Innocent Girl continues Washington’s strong run at Netflix. In recent years, she starred in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the most acclaimed installment in the Knives Out franchise, and executive produced and led Tyler Perry’s WWII drama The Six Triple Eight, which landed in Netflix’s Top 10 in more than 85 countries. She previously appeared in the streamer’s 2020 musical The Prom alongside Meryl Streep.

The film also marks a Netflix return for Marsden, who previously starred in the dark comedy series Dead to Me, a global hit that spent weeks in the platform’s Top 10. He’ll next be seen reprising his Emmy-nominated role in Hulu’s post-apocalyptic thriller Paradise and later this year will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday.

The project is produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter under their production company’s creative partnership with Netflix. Guggenheim, Mike McGrath, Scott Greenberg, and Washington also serve as executive producers.

An Innocent Girl follows Collet-Serra’s recent Netflix success with Carry-On, the Christmas-set action thriller that became the streamer’s third most-watched film of all time, racking up more than 170 million views globally.
