The Imperfect Woman star returns to Hulu with a psychological thriller based on Wendy Walker’s 2023 novel.
Kerry Washington is heading back to Hulu. The actress and producer is set to star in and executive produce What Remains, a thriller drama series adaptation of Wendy Walker’s 2023 novel, currently in development at the streamer.
Washington plays Detective Elise Sutton, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cold case specialist who is forced to reckon with guilt after taking the life of a disturbed man in the line of duty. In an attempt to convince herself she did the right thing, she makes contact with a mysterious man she saved that day, only to discover he is not who he appears to be. What follows is a dangerous game of cat and mouse as Elise follows the clues he leaves behind, realizing she may be the only one who can stop him.
Chris Luccy is writing the adaptation and McG is directing. Luccy spent four seasons on ABC drama A Million Little Things, rising to co-executive producer, and previously served as co-executive producer on Club De Cuervos, Netflix’s first Spanish-language original series. McG has directed two Kapital pilots that went to series, The Mysteries of Laura at NBC and Kevin From Work at ABC Family, and is currently directing the upcoming Apple film Way of the Warrior Kid starring Chris Pratt.
Luccy executive produces alongside Washington and Pilar Sivone via Simpson Street, Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment, and McG, Mary Viola, and Corey Marsh for Wonderland Sound and Vision. Walker serves as a producer. The series is produced by 20th Television and Kapital Entertainment, where Simpson Street has an overall deal.
The project marks Washington’s latest collaboration with Hulu, where she previously starred in and executive produced Little Fires Everywhere and UnPrisoned, both produced through 20th TV. She most recently starred in and executive produced the Apple TV+ limited series Imperfect Women and is set to appear in Ben Affleck’s Netflix film Animals as well as Jaume Collet-Serra’s An Innocent Girl, which is currently in production at Netflix.
Walker is the author of several psychological suspense novels including All Is Not Forgotten, Emma in the Night, and The Night Before. Her work has been translated into more than 23 languages. Her next thriller, Ten Years Gone, is set for publication in February 2027.
