Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes to Play Brothers in Netflix’s True Story

Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes are playing brothers in Netflix’s limited series, True Story.

While the series will see Hart taking a break from his usual comedy movies, Hart is starring as a fictional version of himself. He will play a comedian named Kid (Hart) who reconnects with his wayward older brother Carlton (Snipes) during a tour stop in Philadelphia. The series examines the fall-out of a lost evening the two share that threatens to destroy Kid’s career.

Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman is writing and executive producing the series.

“Kevin Hart’s career is one defined by courageous creative risks and Wesley Snipes is a legendary talent — together they are truly a dream team,” added Newman. “I am absolutely thrilled to be working with these two. As always, I am grateful to Netflix for their continued support, as well as to Charles Murray, Stephen Williams, and Hanelle Culpepper for their creative partnership.”

Hart is also executive producing the project.

“I’ve never been more excited about an acting project in my career,” said Hart, who is also executive producing under his Hartbeat Productions banner. “I’ve always been a fan of Wesley Snipes and working with him is mind-blowing. Having HartBeat Productions at the helm and working alongside Eric Newman as a partner and creative arm has been unreal, nobody is ready for what this show is going to be.”

Charles Murray will serve as showunner, and Stephen Williams will direct the first four episodes. Hanelle Culpepper will direct the final four episodes. This upcoming Netflix project is one of many projects Hart has developed for Netflix. Most recently Hart released his standup special Zero F**ks Given in November.
