KJ Smith (Sistas) and Olivia Applegate (Love & Death) are set to lead Rot, a female-driven psychological thriller marking the feature directorial debut of Cat Del Re.
While plot details are still under wraps, the film is described as “a darkly comic descent into self-confrontation and rebirth” — exploring “the ways the body remembers what the mind tries to forget.”
Del Re will produce the project alongside Jessy Greer under their banner, We’re There Films. Rot is currently in the financing stage with additional casting conversations underway.
The creative team behind the film includes an impressive lineup: Emmy and Student Academy Award–winning cinematographer Andressa Cordeiro, Artios nominee Jane Flowers (Daisy Jones & The Six), three-time Emmy winner Rick Hromadka (The West Wing), and the VFX artists at Dexter Studios (Peaky Blinders).
Before stepping into her feature debut, Del Re built her resume through more than a dozen short films as an actress, writer, and director — and with Rot, she’s set to bring that same raw, layered storytelling to the big screen.
