Lashana Lynch is leaving the modern espionage world behind and stepping into the soot and smoke of post-war 1950s Birmingham. While details about her character are still under wraps, her casting adds major star power to the “next generation” of the Shelby saga. She joins previously confirmed younger cast members, including Cal O’Driscoll (Video Nasty, September Says), Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob Wright.
What’s the New Series About?
Following the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man—set during World War II—the new series fast-forwards to 1953. Ordered for two six-part seasons, the story chronicles a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham Blitz. The Shelby family navigates the brutal, high-stakes world of post-war reconstruction, where concrete and steel are tools of opportunity and danger. According to series creator Steven Knight, this new era is “a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,” with the blood-soaked Shelby family at its heart.
Filming Has Begun
Production kicked off in Stoke-on-Trent under the working title Peaky 1954. Early on-set photos revealed Lynch in stunning 1950s attire, alongside O’Driscoll, Shevlin, and Wright. Kudos, the team behind This Town and SAS: Rogue Heroes, has been filming indoor scenes at the Grade II-listed Queen’s Theatre in Burslem and outdoor sequences on Jenkins Street, fully transformed into post-war Britain with period-appropriate cars and set dressing.
While Stoke-on-Trent hosted initial shoots, most production is expected at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, as well as on the city streets. So far, cast and crew have kept most plot details tightly guarded, but fans can expect a big reveal in the coming weeks.
