The National Theatre has announced casting for the UK premiere of The Story, the acclaimed newsroom thriller written by Tracey Scott Wilson. The production will run in the Olivier Theatre from August 27 through October 24, 2026, with a press night set for September 3.
Previously announced to lead the production is BAFTA Award winner Letitia Wright, who will be joined by a newly revealed cast that includes Lorraine Toussaint, Ashley Thomas, Wilf Scolding, and Aliyah Odoffin.
The ensemble also features Tee Arnold, Donna Augustin, Antonia Bernath, Linseigh Green, Jay Simpson, and Unique Spencer, with further casting still to be announced.
The Story centers on Yvonne Wilson (Wright), an ambitious newspaper reporter who defies her editor to investigate the murder of a white teacher in a predominantly Black neighborhood. As rival journalists race to break the story first, the pursuit of truth becomes increasingly complicated, forcing each character to confront personal ethics, ambition, and the cost of controlling the narrative. Inspired by real events, the play interrogates race, power, media responsibility, and journalistic integrity in high-pressure newsrooms.
The production is directed by Clint Dyer, a National Theatre associate artist known for his work on Death of England. Dyer reunites with Wilson to bring the tense, character-driven drama to the Olivier stage.
With its timely themes and high-profile cast, The Story is positioned as a major highlight of the National Theatre’s 2026 season, marking Wright’s return to the stage alongside a company of acclaimed stage and screen performers.
Tickets will go on sale through the National Theatre ahead of the production’s late-summer opening.
