Lorraine Toussaint Joins Cast of Prime Video’s ‘The Better Sister’

Prime Video’s upcoming thriller series, ‘The Better Sister, has cast Lorraine Toussaint as a series regular. She will star alongside Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks in this adaptation of Alafair Burke’s novel, co-produced by Tomorrow Studios and Amazon MGM Studios.

‘The Better Sister’ explores the complex dynamics between estranged sisters Chloe and Nicky. Jessica Biel portrays Chloe, who enjoys a seemingly perfect life with her lawyer husband, Adam, and teenage son, Ethan. Elizabeth Banks plays Nicky, a struggling addict trying to make ends meet. The family is thrown into turmoil when Adam is murdered, revealing deep-seated secrets and tensions.

Toussaint takes on the role of Catherine Lancaster, a powerful publishing mogul and mentor to Chloe. Catherine is known for her strategic thinking and influence in New York City’s elite circles.

The series boasts a stellar supporting cast, including Corey Stoll, Bobby Naderi, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Kim Dickens, Gabriel Sloyer, Matthew Modine, and Gloria Reuben. The pilot, penned by Olivia Milch (‘Ocean’s 8’), sets the stage for a gripping narrative, with Regina Corrado (‘Mayor of Kingstown’) joining as an executive producer and showrunner. Craig Gillespie (‘Pam & Tommy’) will direct and executive produce the series.

Gabriel Sloyer plays Jake Rodriguez, a close colleague of Adam’s at a prestigious Manhattan law firm. Their bond extends to Adam’s family, adding layers of complexity following Adam’s death. Matthew Modine portrays Bill Braddock, a powerful founding partner at the law firm, whose relationship with Adam vacillates between ally and adversary.

Maxwell Acee Donovan will play Ethan, Chloe’s 17-year-old son, who is deeply affected by the family tragedy. Kim Dickens portrays Nancy Guidry, a perceptive detective investigating Adam’s murder, paired with Bobby Naderi’s character, Matt Bowen, her ambitious and kinder partner.

The production team includes notable names such as Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Alissa Bachner from Tomorrow Studios, along with Banks, Biel, and Michelle Purple. Alafair Burke, the novel’s author, will serve as a consultant for the series.
