Among the notable honorees is Jennifer Hudson, the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner, who will be presented with the prestigious “We See You” Award. This accolade recognizes performers who demonstrate versatility and consistent excellence in their work. Hudson, known for her remarkable music career and hosting Warner Bros. Unscripted Television’s The Jennifer Hudson Show, has been a shining star across various entertainment platforms.

Delroy Lindo, renowned for his memorable roles in UnPrisoned, Da 5 Bloods, Crooklyn, and Romeo Must Die, will be bestowed with the “Legacy Award.” This award celebrates an artist or institution whose work has inspired others to follow in their footsteps. The legendary Marla Gibbs, beloved for her iconic performances in classic TV sitcoms like 227 and The Jeffersons, will receive the esteemed “Legend Award.” This recognition is reserved for individuals who have played a pivotal role in changing the landscape of television and film. Gibbs, a five-time Emmy nominee, has contributed significantly to the industry and has left an enduring legacy.

In addition to honoring individuals, the AAFCA TV Honors also acknowledge outstanding television programming that prioritizes representation and impacts the African American community. The Apple TV+ hit series Ted Lasso will be presented with the “Inclusion Award” for its commitment to showcasing diverse stories and characters from all walks of life. Ted Lasso has resonated with audiences, providing a refreshing and inclusive perspective in the world of television.

The CBS series S.W.A.T., produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with CBS Studios, will be honored with the prestigious “Impact Award.” This award recognizes the profound influence of TV programming through compelling storylines and exceptional performances that resonate with the African American community.

Established in 2003, the AAFCA is the premier organization of Black film critics worldwide. Their mission is to actively review film and television, with a particular emphasis on entertainment that highlights the Black experience in the United States and throughout the African Diaspora. The AAFCA TV Honors, introduced in 2019, aim to recognize and celebrate excellence in television and streaming content, showcasing the diversity and talent within the Black community.

The winners of the 14 competitive categories, including Best TV Comedy, Best TV Drama, Best New Show, Best Documentary, Best Limited Series/Special, Breakout Star, Best Ensemble, Best Writing, Best TV Directing, Best TV Acting (Female), and Best TV Acting (Male), will be announced by the AAFCA on July 19th. These winners, along with the distinguished honorees, will be celebrated at an exclusive, invitation-only luncheon on August 27th at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica, California.

The event will be presided over by Gil Robertson, the President and co-founder of the AAFCA, who continues to lead the organization in its mission to promote and recognize excellence in Black cinema and television.

The AAFCA TV Honors serve as a platform to acknowledge the exceptional achievements and contributions of artists, actors, and TV shows that have made a significant impact on the industry. By celebrating diverse storytelling and representation, these honors play a crucial role in fostering a more inclusive and equitable entertainment landscape.
