Marvel Drops New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer at D23 — Doctor Doom Raises an Army of Sentinels

Doctor Doom has arrived and he is not here to negotiate. Marvel Studios unveiled the second trailer for Avengers: Doomsday during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 on Friday, with the footage introduced onstage by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell. The film hits theaters December 18.

The new trailer puts Doom front and center in a way the first did not, offering a clearer picture of the villain’s devastating power and his motivations. Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm sets the emotional stakes early. “I knew he was lost,” she says. “But I did not realize that he was broken.” The trailer then cuts to Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards confronting Doom amid a destroyed city. “Victor, did you do this?” Reed demands. “All of you have lived stolen lives,” Doom responds. “But now you must give them back.”

Thor attempts to stop him with Stormbreaker, threatening that Doom “will be begging for hell long before I grant it.” Doom blocks the blow and blasts the Norse god with a beam of green energy before raising an army of Sentinels, the classic X-Men adversaries, and declaring: “Hell answers to me, for I am Doom.”

The D23 panel also featured a surprise video appearance from Hugh Jackman, who riffed with an off-screen Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, with Jackman asking to join the cast of Doomsday. Whether the duo actually appear in the film remains unconfirmed.

The sprawling cast brings together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts and the Fox-era X-Men under one roof for the first time. Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom alongside Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
