Durango, Hulu’s drama pilot starring Cooper Hoffman and Kathryn Newton, has been picked up to series. Merritt Wever, Mason Gooding, and Abbey Lee have joined the cast, Variety reports.
Created by Eliza Clarke, the series follows Mikey, a ski bum townie chasing a buzz, and Bunny, a homeschooled runaway working as a diner waitress, as the two fall in love while running from cops, criminals, and Mikey’s wife in pursuit of their own version of the American dream. Wever plays Joni, a sharp, self-effacing local detective suddenly handed the most interesting case of her career after two decades of small-town work. Gooding plays Miles, a quick-witted young detective who serves as Joni’s foil. Lee plays Irina, Mikey’s Russian wife, who’s seeking U.S. citizenship and has Mikey firmly under her influence.
Gooding’s casting continues a steady build in his career across film and television, following prior roles in Love, Victor and the Scream franchise, placing him in a prestige streaming drama alongside established names like Wever. That trajectory, from genre and YA-adjacent projects into character-driven ensemble dramas, reflects a common path for younger actors looking to diversify their range once early franchise or teen-focused roles establish their name recognition.
Durango is co-produced by Media Res and 20th Television, with Clarke serving as writer and executive producer alongside Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Christina Malach. American Light & Fixture also produces. Jesse Peretz directed and executive produced the pilot.
With a series order now official and a cast rounding into shape, the next details to watch for will be a premiere date and how many episodes Hulu has ordered for the first season.
