Matthew Law, who recently appeared in Star Wars: Ahsoka, has officially joined the cast of Abbott Elementary for season 4. He’ll be stepping into the recurring role of O’Shon, the new IT rep for the school district, debuting in tonight’s episode, “Class Pet,” airing on Wednesday nights. Deadline reports as well as shares some first look images below.
For those following Abbott Elementary, tonight’s episode brings a mix of humor and classroom chaos as Janine (played by Quinta Brunson) gets a budget for class pets, but not everyone is thrilled about it. Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) pushes back on taking on the extra responsibility of a guinea pig for her classroom. Meanwhile, O’Shon arrives to set up some new computers for the teachers—likely the ones promised by that smooth-talking lawyer from the local golf course construction crew. The fancy new development had the staff upset about gentrification in the season 4 premiere, but they quickly changed their minds when gift cards and tech upgrades started rolling in.
In the first-look photos shared by Deadline, we see Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) looking particularly amused by O’Shon’s appearance. His presence as the school’s tech support adds a new dynamic to the ongoing stories unfolding at Abbott, a predominantly Black Philadelphia public school that continues to balance the comedy of daily life with more serious undertones.
Created by and starring Emmy Award winner Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary continues to shine as one of network TV’s standout comedies. Joining Brunson in the cast are Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, William Stanford Davis, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. The series explores the highs and lows of teaching while infusing it with heartfelt humor, centering on Janine Teagues’ mission to enrich her students’ lives.
As for Matthew Law, this new role is just the latest in his impressive resume. Hailing from Seattle and now based in LA, Law has been making waves as an actor, writer, director, and activist. Beyond Star Wars: Ahsoka, he’s gearing up for the new season of Based on a True Story on Peacock. He also wrote and directed True, an immersive stage show addressing Black men’s mental health, which has seen six sold-out performances in LA after qualifying for Oscar consideration.
Abbott Elementary airs on Wednesdays, so be sure to catch Law’s debut and see how his character shakes things up for the staff at Abbott!
