MGM+ has released first-look images from Bosch: Start of Watch, the prequel series exploring the origin story of Michael Connelly’s detective Harry Bosch, ahead of its January 10 premiere. The series stars Cameron Monaghan as a 26-year-old rookie cop Harry Bosch and Omari Hardwick as veteran officer Eli Bridges.

Set in 1992 Los Angeles, the series follows Bosch during his earliest days on the force, newly joined to the LAPD after serving in the Persian Gulf War, navigating a city defined by racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured police department. Amid routine calls and growing unrest, Bosch gets pulled into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that tests his loyalty to the badge and begins shaping him into the detective who later lives by the code “Everybody counts or nobody counts.” Unlike the original Bosch series and its spinoff Bosch: Legacy, which drew directly from Connelly’s novels, Start of Watch isn’t adapted from any specific book, since no Connelly novel focuses exclusively on Bosch’s rookie years, making this the first in-depth portrayal of young Bosch on page or screen.
The series arrives as the latest expansion of the Bosch franchise, which has already spun out into Bosch: Legacy and Ballard following the success of the original Prime Video series. Series regulars also include Ariana Guerra as Rosa and JD Pardo as Cory, with Kathleen Wilhoite, William Fichtner, Rafi Gavron, Raphael Sbarge, Azita Ghanizada, Kenneth Miller, Seamus Dever, Ryan McPartlin, Marco Rodriguez, and Shelli Boone rounding out the eight-episode season.

Bosch: Start of Watch is produced by Fabel Entertainment, co-created and executive produced by Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony, with Bernardo serving as showrunner. Michael Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, Stephen Kay, and Jasmine Russ also executive produce.
The series premieres January 10, 2027, with a two-episode debut, followed by weekly episodes through its February 21 finale on MGM+ in the U.S., U.K., Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Latin America.
