Michaela Coel joins Donald Glover and Maya Erskine in the TV show reboot of Mr. and Mrs. Smith for Amazon’s Prime Video. John Turturro and Paul Dano have also been cast.
Glover and Erskine lead the series as John and Jane, whose marriage only becomes more complicated when they are hired by a mysterious spy agency. As part of his overall deal with Amazon, Glover works as the series’ co-creator and executive producer alongside Francesca Sloane, who also serves as showrunner.
However details of Coel, Turturro and Dano’s roles are being kept under wraps.

The concept of Mr. and Mrs. Smith was made twice prior to this upcoming series.
The series debuted in 1996 and starred Scott Bakula and Maria Bello. The short-lived CBS series aired from September 20, 1996 to November 8, 1996. Nearly a decade later it was turned into the 2005 romantic action comedy film that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Doug Liman directed the film that Simon Kinberg wrote. The film centered on a bored upper middle class married couple surprised to learn that they are assassins belonging to competing agencies, and that they have been assigned to kill each other.
The film was released in the United States on June 10, 2005. It received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $487 million worldwide.
In addition to starring, Glover is co-creator and exec producer on the series under his overall deal with Amazon Studios. Francesca Sloane is co-creator, executive producer and showrunner. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer also executive produce. Amazon Studios is the studio.
