After decades of scene-stealing cameos, Miss Piggy is finally getting her own close-up.
Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she and Emma Stone are producing a Miss Piggy movie with Oh, Mary! creator and Tony Award winner Cole Escola writing the script. It’s the first solo film for the iconic Muppet since her debut on The Muppet Show nearly 50 years ago.
Lawrence broke the news during an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast, confessing she “probably wasn’t supposed to” announce it. Both she and Stone are expected to appear in the film.
While plot details are being kept secret, Lawrence later shared that the idea for the film was sparked during lockdown, at the height of conversations around fame and cancel culture.
“Miss Piggy is a feminist icon, and my friend said it would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled,” Lawrence explained on The Tonight Show. “That’s not the plot, but it got the wheels turning.”
The project, inspired by those themes rather than directly retelling them, will reportedly explore the complexities of celebrity, image, and self-perception — all through the lens of one of pop culture’s most beloved divas.
Lawrence also credited Stone, whom she calls the “Muppet-head,” for helping shape the project’s creative direction. Escola, known for their sharp comedic writing on Ziwe, The Other Two, and At Home with Amy Sedaris, is crafting the script.
The timing couldn’t be better: The Muppets recently celebrated their 70th anniversary, and Disney+ is already developing a new Muppet Show special produced by Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures for 2026.
If Miss Piggy’s finally getting the fame-focused movie she deserves, one thing’s certain — Hollywood better be ready for her close-up.
