Netflix released the trailer for Dave Chappelle’s seventh comedy special, “The Dreamer.” The special will premiere on the streamer, December 31, 2023.
The upcoming special was filmed in Chappelle’s hometown of Washington, D.C., at the historic Lincoln Theatre. And like before is directed by Emmy Award-winning director Stan Lathan. He previously directed all seven of Chappelle’s Netflix specials.

The trailer for “The Dreamer” features the iconic voice of Morgan Freeman, who not only narrates the teaser but also makes an appearance alongside Chappelle in the trailer. Freeman’s narration poses thought-provoking questions about dreams, setting the tone for what promises to be a compelling and introspective comedy experience.
In the trailer, Freeman’s voice resonates, asking, “What do you dream about? Not the dreams you have in your sleep, the ones you hold in your heart. Don’t be intimidated by the audacity of your dream — be inspired by it.” This inquiry encapsulates the essence of “The Dreamer,” hinting at Chappelle’s exploration of dreams and inspiration.

Chappelle’s return to the comedy scene in 2016 has been marked by critical acclaim and success. His Netflix specials, including “Sticks & Stones” and “Equanimity & The Bird Revelation,” have earned him five Emmy Awards, while his Grammy-winning performances in “The Closer,” “Sticks & Stones,” “Equanimity & The Bird Revelation,” and “The Age Of Spin & Deep In The Heart Of Texas” have solidified his status as a comedy legend.
Despite controversy surrounding his 2021 special, “The Closer,” Chappelle’s influence remains strong, with Netflix standing by the comedian’s creative freedom.
In addition to his success in stand-up, Chappelle is set to open a comedy and music club in Yellow Springs, Ohio, early in 2024.
