Mother Knows Murder, the previously untitled true crime video podcast from Niecy Nash and her daughter Dia Nash, will stream exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu one day ahead of its wider release, premiering November 9. The series is part of Pave Studios’ Crime House sub-brand and marks one of two Crime House titles, alongside Clues, now picked up by a major streaming platform for the first time.
The deal reflects a broader shift in how streaming platforms are treating podcast content. Disney+ joins Netflix, HBO Max, and Peacock in adding podcast programming to its library, a move platforms see as a relatively low-cost way to boost watch time and engagement compared to scripted originals. Pave Studios was founded by Max Cutler, who previously built Parcast before becoming a Spotify executive following the company’s acquisition.
As previously reported, Mother Knows Murder centers on crimes of passion rooted in intimacy and betrayal, covering cases involving partners, exes, spouses, and lovers, with Niecy and Dia delivering commentary and reactions to real cases while filming from bed. This marks the Nashes’ first joint venture translating their on-screen true crime credibility into original audio and video content; Niecy has starred in When They See Us, The Rookie, The Rookie: Feds, and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, while Dia has appeared in Lifetime’s Sister Wife Murder alongside her mother in several of those same projects. In a joint statement, the pair said, “In our family we don’t just tell stories, we solve them.”
The series’ move to Disney+ and Hulu gives the Nashes’ podcast a significantly larger built-in audience than most true crime podcasts typically reach at launch, positioning Mother Knows Murder alongside premium scripted content rather than competing solely within the standalone podcast space. Cutler called the streaming deal “proof” of Crime House’s creator-led model, adding that Disney is “the first of many places we expect these stories to go.”
Clues, hosted by Kaelyn Moore and previously a Webby winner, premieres the following Tuesday ahead of Mother Knows Murder’s November 9 debut, with both series releasing new episodes on Disney+ and Hulu a full day before hitting other podcast platforms.
