Chloe Bailey, Tosin Cole, Olivia Colman, and Woody Harrelson to star in the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Girl from the North Country.
The musical, written and directed by Conor McPherson, is set in 1934 in Duluth, Minnesota during the Great Depression and tells a story of wayward travelers whose lives intersect at a guesthouse. The film will feature classic songs from Bob Dylan’s expansive music library, including “Forever Young,” “All Along the Watchtower,” and “Like a Rolling Stone”.

The film’s central characters, Nick Laine (Harrelson) and his wife Elizabeth (Colman), are struggling to keep their guesthouse afloat, with Elizabeth suffering from dementia and the bank foreclosing on their home. Meanwhile, adopted daughter Marianne (Bailey) has a secret that’s causing trouble for everyone. When escaped convict Joe Scott (Cole) seeks shelter at the guesthouse, a relationship develops between him and Marianne that changes everything.
The musical has received Bob Dylan’s stamp of approval, with the iconic singer stating that “to be associated with Conor is one of the highlights of my professional life…My songs couldn’t be in better hands.” McPherson added that “having Bob Dylan’s trust to create a story using his incomparable songs is a huge privilege which has brought nothing but joy to my world.”
Bailey is known for her work in musical duo Chloe x Halle and on shows like “Grown-ish” and “Black-ish”. Colman is an Oscar and Emmy-winning actress of “The Favourite” and “The Crown”, while Harrelson is a three-time Oscar nominee for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”. The film is being backed by Blueprint Pictures, with CAA Media Finance handling domestic sales and Rocket Science launching international sales at the Berlin Film Festival.
