Walt Disney Animation Studios is gearing up to enchant audiences with their upcoming musical comedy, “Wish.” Recently, the studio dropped a thrilling new trailer, providing a tantalizing peek into the magical world of the film. Set to grace U.S. theaters on November 22nd, 2023, “Wish” promises to be an enchanting experience for audiences of all ages.
Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, “Wish” boasts a stellar voice cast, which now includes Natasha Rothwell, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, in addition to the previously announced Ariana DeBose, Chris Pine, and Alan Tudyk.
Set in the captivating kingdom of Rosas, “Wish” introduces us to Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, voiced by Ariana DeBose. Asha is a spirited young woman who holds her family and community close to her heart. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she uncovers King Magnifico’s true intentions regarding the wishes entrusted to him.
Chris Pine lends his charismatic voice to King Magnifico, the formidable ruler of Rosas, who wields the power to fulfill or deny countless wishes. However, his motivations are far from altruistic, leading to a clash with the determined Asha.
One of the film’s most distinctive characters is Star, a cosmic force who communicates without words, allowing viewers to project their own emotions onto the character. Star embodies hope and inspiration, motivating Asha to embark on a heroic journey. Valentino, the lovable goat accompanying Asha, is voiced by Alan Tudyk. Despite his frequent tumbles, Valentino is characterized by unwavering confidence and determination, adding a layer of depth to the character.
Natasha Rothwell steps into the role of Sakina, Asha’s loving and supportive mother, who recognizes her daughter’s passion and concerns for her well-being. Angelique Cabral voices Queen Amaya, the kind and confident wife of King Magnifico, who wholeheartedly supports Asha’s aspirations to become the King’s apprentice. Victor Garber lends his voice to Sabino, Asha’s 100-year-old grandfather, who patiently awaits the fulfillment of his own long-delayed wish.
The film also introduces a group of teenagers who serve as Asha’s confidants and friends, each inspired by the seven dwarfs, adding depth and charm to the story. Jennifer Kumiyama, Evan Peters, Harvey Guillén, Ramy Youseff, Niko Vargas, Della Saba, and Jon Rudnitsky bring these characters to life in their own unique ways.
- Jennifer Kumiyama voices Dahlia, Asha’s dearest friend and an accomplished baker who leads their group.
- Evan Peters brings to life Simon, a strong young man with a gentle heart but a penchant for yawning.
- Harvey Guillén embodies Gabo, a character with a heart of gold, despite his occasional cynicism.
- Ramy Youseff portrays Safi, a character plagued by allergies.
