The latest franchise spinoff sends Special Agent Sam Hanna to lead a new team in New York, premiering October 6 on CBS and Paramount+.
Sam Hanna is coming home. CBS has released the first trailer for NCIS: New York, and it makes one thing immediately clear: the character hasn’t lost a step in the move from Los Angeles.
LL Cool J returns to the NCIS universe in the franchise’s newest spinoff, this time relocating the action to New York City. There, Hanna partners with roguish agent Nick Schaeffer (Scott Caan) under the leadership of Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robyn Wells (Jennifer Beals). The rest of the new team includes Special Agent Addison “Addy” Ross (Jacqueline Byers), Special Agent Wyatt Sellers (Shane Harper), and Tech Specialist Sean Sullivan (Devin Druid).
The trailer wastes little time establishing the dynamic between its two leads. As Nick shows Sam around the office, the banter lands immediately, including a quick jab about Sam’s size that gets turned right back around on him. By the trailer’s end, Nick sums up the moment simply: “Big Sammy’s coming home.”
According to the official synopsis, the series follows Hanna as he returns to his hometown field office, helping lead a new team tasked with high-stakes missions protecting one of the country’s most vital cities and ports.
LL Cool J first introduced Sam Hanna to the franchise back in 2009 on NCIS: Los Angeles, carrying the character through all 14 seasons before that series concluded in 2023. He’s since reprised the role on NCIS: Hawai’i and the original NCIS, making NCIS: New York his fourth stop with the character. “I’ve been kind of on and off doing the character all along,” LL Cool J told PEOPLE. “I’m just having fun.”
LL Cool J also executive produces the series alongside R. Scott Gemmill, showrunner Byron Balasco, Adam Davidson, Kyle Harimoto, Joe Wilson, and Jason Barrett. The show is produced by CBS Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
NCIS: New York premieres Tuesday, October 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, with episodes streaming afterward on Paramount+.
