Netflix is marking a decade in South Africa with a fresh lineup of local titles, spanning returning seasons and sequels of established favorites alongside brand new series and unscripted formats.
The streamer unveiled the lineup at a press showcase in Rosebank, Johannesburg, where Netflix executives, filmmakers and on-screen talent gathered to mark 10 years since the service’s 2016 launch in the country. Netflix says its South African originals have supported more than 8,000 jobs through partnerships with over 30 local production companies, with productions filmed across 20 cities in eight provinces.
“Ten years ago, we set out to share South African stories and voices with the world and today, we are proud to strengthen our partnership with the local creative industry and continue creating exciting stories that will entertain our members in South Africa and around the world,” said Ben Amadasun, VP of Content for Netflix Middle East and Africa. “Our slate ahead keeps that ambition alive with the addition of established names alongside bold new production partners across genres from unscripted to thrillers, family dramas and comedy.”
Since its 2016 debut, Netflix says it has released more than 300 local South African titles, with productions including Blood and Water, Young Famous & African, Unseen, Silverton Siege, Fatal Seduction, Disaster Holiday, How to Ruin Christmas, Beauty and the Bester, Marked, Kings of Joburg, Blood Legacy, The Polygamist and, most recently, Umthetho. Among the standout successes is The Polygamist, filmed in Johannesburg and based on the 2012 novel by Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi, which generated more than 24 million views in its first weeks, reached the Top 10 in 62 countries and ranked No. 1 in more than 21 countries. The show’s popularity also tripled sales of Nyathi’s original book more than a decade after its publication.

Blood Legacy Season 2
Launches September 25. The Ndlovu family returns as their business, power and survival come under renewed threat, and secrets about the origins of their empire resurface, forcing the fractured family to decide whether their greatest danger lies with their enemies or within their own ranks. Stars Xolile Tshabalala, Buyile Mdladla, Mike Ndlangamandla, Thembi Nyandeni, Amanda Seome, Dineo Rasedile, Anthony Oseyemi, Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, Nandipa Khubone, Pallance Dladla and Thabiso Ramotshela.
How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents
Launches October 30. A new entry in the How to Ruin franchise, this comedy follows overachieving perfectionist Mmabatho Nkomo as she meets her fiance’s traditional Indian family for the first time, only to accidentally expose her future father-in-law’s secret affair just days before Diwali. From Burnt Onion Productions and Urban Vision, in collaboration with producer Jayan Moodley (The Kandasamys). Stars Rosemary Zimu-Mnguni, Kyle Clark, Jailoshini Naidoo, Koobeshen Naidoo, Sonia Mbele, Meshack Mavuso, Luthando “BU” Mthembu, Denise Zimba and Ashish Gangapersad.
Another Disaster Holiday
Launches December 11. Directed by Rethabile Ramaphakela, Joseph Ngema (Kenneth Nkosi) prepares to become a father again at 50 and fights to prove he’s still father of the year, crashing his children’s Sun City babymoon with his ex-wife Dora and her new, much younger boyfriend, played by newcomer Kay Sibiya.
Tuiskoms Season 2
Coming later in 2026. As Fleur (Amalia Uys) and Werner (Armand Aucamp) prepare for their wedding, their carefully planned future takes an unexpected turn while a free-spirited woman with a complicated past returns to Wilderness hoping to reconnect with the family she left behind. Also stars Kim Syster, Jane de Wet and Clint Brink.
Love Is Blind: South Africa
Coming later in 2026. The global dating experiment lands in South Africa, hosted by Dineo and Zothile “Solo Ntsizwa” Langa, following singles who choose to marry someone before ever meeting them in person, then testing whether their emotional bond can survive physical reality. Seriously Single Too
Coming later in 2026. Dineo (Fulu Mugovhani) and Noni (Tumi Morake) are back for a Cape Town bachelorette getaway that spirals into a disastrous chain of events threatening to end their estranged friendship for good. Directed by Rethabile Ramaphakela and Katleho Ramaphakela. Also stars Buntu Petse, Keke Mphuthi, Yonda Thomas and Thabiso Rammusi.

Stars and Vows: Anele & Buzza — Coming later in 2026. This wedding docu-soap follows the engagement and lead-up to the wedding of TV and radio personality Anele Mdoda and Bonelela “Buzza James” Mgudlwa. Created by Nomzamo Mbatha, Teddy Geldart, Vuyo Sowah and Pet Tasara, and directed by Pascual Wakefield, from Dopezuluboi Productions.
Meet the Khumalos 2 — Currently in production. Directed by Jayan Moodley, this comedy brings back the family chaos with two mothers, an unforgettable road trip and an engagement hanging by a thread. Stars Khanyi Mbau, Ayanda Borotho, Jesse Suntele and Khosi Ngema.
Beyond the titles already announced, Netflix says it’s also developing a new dating reality show with BrightFire Productions, along with deepening partnerships with local production companies, including a new scripted series from Shaka iLembe producer The Bomb Shelter Film Productions and a multi-title deal with The River producer Tshedza Pictures covering four additional scripted series.
To mark the 10-year anniversary, Netflix has launched a dedicated homepage collection called “A Decade in Africa: Worth Every Watch,” featuring local series and films, pan-African fan favorites, global titles popular with African members, and titles featuring global talent with African roots. The collection will be available to audiences across Sub-Saharan Africa from September through December 2026, automatically appearing on members’ homepages or accessible at Netflix.com/Africa10.
