Updated with teaser trailer
Netflix has set a Sept. 9 premiere date for Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again?, the long-awaited third installment in the beloved franchise, with first look images now available showing the returning ensemble alongside newcomer Taraji P. Henson.
The comedy-drama brings back Perry, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, and Lamman Rucker, with the new story set against the backdrop of a destination wedding in Lake Como, Italy. The film centers on the wedding of Marcus and Angela Williams’ daughter, pulling the group of longtime friends back together after years apart, only to find that as much as things change, they stay the same.

The new installment also features Armani Greer, Everett Osborne, Da’Vinchi, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Jaden Michael, Charles L. Smith II, Derrick A. King, and Sydney Winbush.
Henson, joins the ensemble as Roselyn, a fierce, powerful businesswoman whose son is the groom at the Lake Como celebration. Perry, who last worked with Henson on 2025’s Netflix drama Straw, will write, direct, and produce alongside Angi Bones and Tony Strickland.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis, after being apart for some time, the group realizes their children have grown up to be remarkably similar to them and must reflect on the examples they’ve set, ultimately asking themselves that age-old question: why did they get married again?
The original Why Did I Get Married?, adapted from Perry’s stage play, followed four married couples, close college friends who reunited annually for a weeklong getaway that consistently laid bare infidelity, mistrust, and the complicated work of keeping love alive. Its 2010 sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too?, brought the group to the Bahamas, where buried secrets pushed the couples further to their limits. Both films were box office hits, and the franchise helped launch several careers within the ensemble.
The film continues Perry’s ongoing creative partnership with Netflix, which has previously delivered global hits including Madea’s Destination Wedding and Straw, the latter reaching the Top 10 in 93 countries and topping charts in 62.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? premieres on Netflix Sept. 9.
