Netflix Unveils First Trailer for The Long-Awaited ‘The Old Guard 2’

Netflix has just dropped the first trailer for The Old Guard 2 the long-waited return of the action flick. The trailer teases even more high-stakes action, deeper character development, and a thrilling new threat that could change the course of the immortal warriors’ mission to protect humanity.

What’s the Sequel About?

The Old Guard 2 picks up where the original left off, with Andy and her team of immortal mercenaries facing a new and powerful enemy. According to the official logline, “Andy (Charlize Theron) leads immortal warriors against a powerful enemy threatening their group. They grapple with the resurfacing of a long-lost immortal, complicating their mission to safeguard humanity.”

The film delves deeper into the complex relationships of Andy and her team, as they struggle with the return of an old foe, their past betrayals, and the complications of immortality itself. With new dangers on the horizon, the stakes have never been higher.

Who’s Returning and Who’s New?

Alongside Charlize Theron, who reprises her role as Andy, the sequel brings back key players from the original film:

Behind the Scenes

Directed by Victoria Mahoney, who is known for her work on Lovecraft Country and The Morning Show, the sequel brings a fresh perspective to the franchise. The script is written by Leandro Fernandez, Greg Rucka, and Sarah L. Walker, with Theron serving as one of the producers alongside A.J. Dix, David Ellison, Marc Evans, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Beth Kono, and Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film is based on the graphic novel series written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernandez.

Production Challenges and New Release Date

The production of The Old Guard 2 faced some delays, with filming wrapping in the summer of 2022 before a temporary pause in post-production. As Theron mentioned previously, the production hit some roadblocks due to changes at Netflix, leading to a delay in the film’s timeline. Despite the setbacks, the film is now set to release globally on July 2, 2025.

The first Old Guard film, released in 2020, became a global sensation, watched by 72 million households in its first four weeks on Netflix. The sequel is set to bring even more heart-pounding action, as well as deeper dives into the characters and their eternal struggles.
