Apple TV has released the official trailer for Nocturne, a new crime thriller set to premiere October 30. The 10 episode series is based on Lars Kepler’s internationally bestselling novels, drawing from The Sandman, part of the author’s Joona Linna crime series. It was previously known as Lazarus during development.
Liev Schreiber leads the cast as Jonah Lynn, an ex soldier turned homicide detective who leaves the streets of Philadelphia behind for a quieter life in a small town in western Pennsylvania. That peace doesn’t last long. When the calculating serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Stephen Graham, turns his attention to Jonah’s town and family, Jonah is forced to send his surrogate daughter, FBI Agent Saga Bauer, played by Zazie Beetz, directly into the killer’s path in a desperate search for his one remaining missing victim.
The trailer leans into that central tension, following Jonah’s methodical detective work alongside Saga’s far riskier undercover approach as both threads close in on the same unresolved case. Apple TV is positioning the series alongside its existing slate of prestige mysteries like Black Bird and Presumed Innocent.
The ensemble cast includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan, Gary Carr, and Landon Valentin.
Rowan Joffe created the series for television and executive produces, with John Hlavin serving as showrunner and executive producer. Tim Van Patten, known for his work on The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, directs the first two episodes and also executive produces. Schreiber and Beetz round out the executive producer list, with Beetz producing through her Sleepy Poppy banner.
Nocturne is produced for Apple TV by A+E Studios in association with Range Studios. Lars Kepler, the shared pen name of husband and wife writing duo Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril, also executive produces. The couple’s crime novels have sold 20 million copies worldwide and been translated into 40 languages across more than 170 territories.
The role marks a stark turn for Graham, who comes into Nocturne fresh off his Emmy winning performance in Adolescence, which swept last year’s Emmy Awards with eight wins including Outstanding Limited Series.
Nocturne premieres October 30 on Apple TV with its first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through December 25.
