Omar Sy is cast as the lead in The Killer remake from John Woo and Universal for Peacock.
Woo who wrote and directed the original 1989 crime drama is returning to direct the film. Writing partners Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell, Eran Creevy and Brian Helgland are penning this new version.
The plot for the The Killer remake has yet to be disclosed. But the original film centered on assassin Ah Jong (Chow Yun-Fat). After accidentally blinding an innocent woman (played by Sally Yeh) during a hit he becomes determined to get her the medical treatment to restore her vision. To make it happen he takes on one last job.
Woo will also produce alongside his longtime associate Lori Tilkin, with whom he developed the project. Universal Pictures’ Senior Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Development Executive Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
Earlier this year it was announced that The Killer remake is one of three Universal originals set to debut on Peacock in 2023.
Sy is a French actor who gained wide recognition with his role in the 2011 comedy-drama The Intouchables. His credits include X-Men: Days of Future Past and Jurassic World. His most recent role is in the French mystery thriller series, Lupin.
