Ashanti Harris and Zing Ashford have been announced as the latest additions to the cast of Omarion’s co-created upcoming series “Involved” for AllBlk. The talented two secured their roles during AllBlk’s fourth annual “Shoot Your Shot” national casting call, which took place at the 2023 American Black Film Festival.
The highly anticipated series explores the life of OB Sharp, a former boyband superstar who is on the verge of embarking on a global tour. However, OB secretly desires to become a more present father and establish a healthier co-parenting relationship with his child’s mother, Shayla.
Complicating matters further, Shayla’s new boyfriend moves into OB’s guesthouse, resulting in an unexpected family dynamic. The show delves into OB’s journey as he navigates these challenging circumstances with the support of his best friend Maya and their encounter with Edy, an eccentric flower shop owner, leading to a unique exploration of a throuple relationship.
Ashanti Harris will take on the lead role of Shayla Williams in AllBlk’s highly anticipated scripted dramedy, “Involved.” Harris impressed the judges with her exceptional talent and was chosen to star alongside Omarion in the series. Additionally, Zing Ashford’s outstanding performance earned her an offer for a role in the show.
The national casting call attracted a pool of promising actresses, with five finalists performing scenes in front of a live audience, accompanied by celebrity reader Lance Gross. The expert judging panel, consisting of Omarion, Romeo Miller, casting director Leah Daniels-Butler, Brett Dismuke, Nikki Love, Michelle Le Fleur, and Kevin Boyd, made the final selection of Harris and Ashford.
Expressing his gratitude, series co-creator Omarion shared, “There was some substantial talent on this stage tonight! I’m truly thankful to all five actresses for giving their all and bringing their own vibe & flavor to the character, but Ashanti truly embodied the essence of Shayla Williams and brought the character to life right before our eyes. I’m confident in the decision made tonight and look forward to working with Ashanti and putting that energy on the TV screen for the world to see. It’s Involved 2024. Let’s gooo.”
“Involved,” produced by AllBlk, is set to begin filming in the upcoming fall season. Alongside Omarion, the series co-creators and executive producers include Tommy Morgan Jr., Kevin G. Boyd, and Deji LaRay. They will be joined by executive producers Michelle Le Fleur, Bentley Kyle Evans, Brett Dismuke, and Nikki Love.
