While it’s ‘P4L’ on Netflix, the ‘for life’ part means Season 5 as the Pogues are setting sail for one last adventure.
Netflix and the show’s creators have confirmed that Outer Banks will return for a fifth and final season. This news drops just ahead of the release of the second half of Season 4, with the last five episodes premiering on November 7th.
In an open letter addressed to “all Pogues,” series creators Shannon Burke, Josh Pate, and Jonas Pate shared their journey of bringing Outer Banks to life. “In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story about four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time,” they wrote. “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship.”
The trio also acknowledged the bittersweet nature of this milestone, noting, “Now, with a little sadness but also excitement, we’re putting Season Four behind us and turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet.”
While writing has already begun for the final season, production dates and a premiere timeline are still to be determined. The cast, including Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey, Austin North, Fiona Palomo, J. Anthony Crane, Pollyanna McIntosh, Brianna Brown, Rigo Sanchez, Mia Challis, and Cullen Moss, celebrated this announcement at an event in Los Angeles over the weekend.
Since its debut in 2020, Outer Banks has been a steady hit for Netflix. Season 4, which began with Part 1 dropping on October 10th, debuted at number one on Netflix’s English-language TV charts and has remained in the top 10 for several weeks. The show’s success is not just in the numbers; it’s in the impact on its community, a testament to its blend of thrilling treasure hunts and deep bonds of friendship.
Set in a North Carolina coastal town divided by wealth and status, Outer Banks follows the Pogues—a group of working-class teens—on their quest for legendary treasures. With its high-stakes drama, complicated relationships, and adventure-filled narrative, the series has amassed a passionate following and brought attention to young talent in Hollywood.
The upcoming final season is set to continue the Pogues’ pursuit of adventure. For now, all eyes are on the imminent release of Season 4’s concluding episodes on November 7th—another chapter that keeps us on the edge of our seats until the very end. One last ride, one last treasure hunt, and one last chance to celebrate the Pogues in all their glory.
