OWN has set November 28 for the premiere of The Christmas Showdown 2, the network’s first-ever holiday movie sequel, reuniting Amber Stevens West and Corbin Reid as childhood best friends turned business partners. The film is part of the network’s eighth annual OWN for the Holidays programming event, with the trailer and synopsis revealed exclusively to PEOPLE.
The sequel continues the story of Chastity, played by Stevens West, and April, played by Reid, from 2025’s The Christmas Showdown, which premiered on OWN in December of that year as part of the network’s seventh annual holiday slate. In the original film, childhood best friends April and Chastity hadn’t spoken in years after April backed out of their plan to move to New York together, choosing Paris instead to pursue her career as an event producer. The two reunite unexpectedly back home and end up competing against each other for the same event design job, the Sugar Heights Christmas Eve Spectacular, with their rivalry escalating before the two ultimately work through their falling-out. The film also starred Loretta Devine, Obba Babatundé, and Carla Renata.
In the new sequel, Chastity and April are now running their own company, H-Town Events, in their first year operating independently, only to face a new threat when the local mayor brings in Largesse Productions, a national events company run by the formidable Tate, played by Jenifer Lewis, to compete for the town’s business. The two women must defend both their company and the Christmas Spectacular itself while juggling their personal relationships along the way. Tommy Miles also stars as the mayor.
Stevens West and Reid first met during a chemistry read for the Starz series Run the World, where they costarred for two seasons before carrying that friendship into their work together on the Christmas Showdown franchise. OWN president Tina Perry said the network is especially excited to continue the story with its first-ever sequel, calling it a way to build on a tradition that’s become a beloved part of the network’s holiday programming.
The Christmas Showdown 2 premieres Saturday, November 28, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.
