Barbershop, the comedy series continuing the beloved film franchise, will premiere all eight episodes on Prime Video on February 10, 2027, in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The streamer shared the date alongside new first look images from the series.
The show follows Travis “Trav” Walker, played by Jermaine Fowler, as he returns to Chicago hoping to honor his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop. The shop has changed, and so has the city, and as Trav works to find his footing among a new crew of barbers and loyal regulars, Calvin’s stays true to what it’s always been, a place for sharp fades, sharper opinions, and a community that never runs out of things to say.
The cast includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman, with guest appearances from Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli.
Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original 2002 film, and Max Searle serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They’re joined by Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, and Tiffany Brown for Hartbeat, Bradley Gardner for Busy B Entertainment, Cameron Burnett and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions, George L. Tillman and Robert Teitel for State Street Pictures, Fowler himself, and Oz Rodriguez, who also directs. Amazon MGM Studios produces.
This marks the second time Barbershop has made the jump to television. Showtime aired a short lived sitcom based on the films back in 2005, starring Omar Gooding, which lasted just one season. The original Barbershop film debuted in 2002 starring Ice Cube, spawning two sequels along with the Queen Latifah led spinoff Beauty Shop, with the franchise grossing more than $235 million worldwide.
The series is part of Prime Video’s broader effort to bring classic MGM properties back to life, joining other reimagined titles like the Legally Blonde prequel Elle and an upcoming Tomb Raider drama.
