The reimagined series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” co-created by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, is set to premiere on Prime Video, February 2, 2024. Starring Glover and Maya Erskine, the show follows two undercover spies who, while posing as a married couple, find themselves falling in love for real.
Originally scheduled for a November release, the debut was delayed to 2024 due to Hollywood strikes. The series, featuring eight episodes, will be available exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries.

In this adaptation, John and Jane Smith, portrayed by Glover and Erskine, assume new identities as a married couple working for a mysterious spy agency. Balancing espionage and marriage, they embark on high-risk missions while navigating the complexities of their undercover relationship. The plot takes a twist as genuine emotions come into play, blurring the lines between their fabricated personas and real feelings.
Michaela Coel, John Turturro, and Paul Dano, also star in the series.
The concept of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” has been explored twice before this upcoming series. It first made its debut as a short-lived CBS series in 1996, starring Scott Bakula and Maria Bello. Nearly a decade later, the story was reinvented as a romantic action comedy film directed by Doug Liman and written by Simon Kinberg. The film follows a bored upper-middle-class couple who discovers that they are rival assassins assigned to eliminate each other. Released on June 10, 2005, the film garnered mixed reviews from critics but proved to be a box office success, grossing $487 million worldwide.
Donald Glover, also known for Atlanta, serves as co-creator, executive producer, and lead actor, while Francesca Sloane takes on the roles of co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner.
Glover, leveraging his overall deal with Amazon Studios, not only stars in but also contributes as an executive producer. Francesca Sloane, alongside New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer, adds her touch as co-creator and executive producer.
