MANSA Films has announced that Newborn, the psychological thriller directed by Nate Parker and starring David Oyelowo, will be available on Video on Demand beginning July 24.
The film follows Chris Newborn, played by Oyelowo, who after serving seven years in solitary confinement seeks to rebuild his life and reconnect with his family, only to find that freedom has become a terrifying psychological battleground as he struggles to distinguish what is real from what is not.
The VOD release follows the film’s exclusive theatrical run at AMC Theatres earlier this year, as well as a viral New York City traveling activation that generated millions of organic impressions across TikTok, Instagram and X and became one of MANSA’s most talked-about marketing moments.
“NEWBORN is a story that challenges audiences to reflect on love, sacrifice, and the resilience of the human spirit,” Parker said. “We’re thrilled to finally bring this film to audiences everywhere through its VOD release.”
The film co-stars Barry Pepper, Olivia Washington and Jimmie Fails. It is produced by Aaron L. Gilbert and Christina Lee Storm alongside Parker and Oyelowo through his Yoruba Saxon production company.
Newborn marks another milestone for MANSA, the premium entertainment company founded by Oyelowo and Parker to champion culturally rich, globally resonant storytelling with a focus on elevating underrepresented voices. Oyelowo previously earned Golden Globe and Film Independent Spirit Award nominations for his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, with additional credits including The Book of Clarence, A Wrinkle in Time, Lawmen: Bass Reeves and Queen of Katwe.
Newborn will be available to rent or purchase on major digital platforms beginning July 24.
