Disney has found its trio of young stars for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the upcoming animated/live-action hybrid series from Jon Favreau.
Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Encanto), Mykal-Michelle Harris (Raven’s Home, Mixed-ish), and Ryder Allen (The Penguin) will star in the new Disney+ series centered around Oswald — a mischievous, self-absorbed bunny with deep roots in Disney history.
Cabot-Conyers will play Jake, a hardworking middle schooler with a big heart. Harris takes on the role of Jen, a sharp, artistic student who’s always two steps ahead. Allen rounds out the cast as Taylor, a cautious yet loyal friend who rarely turns his back on his crew.
Favreau, who is writing, producing, and directing the series for Walt Disney Studios, is bringing a new spin to Oswald — one of Disney’s most historic characters. Originally created by Walt Disney in 1927, Oswald starred in 27 shorts before the rights were taken by Universal in 1928. That pivotal moment led Walt Disney to create Mickey Mouse, and the rest is animation history.
Oswald remained out of Disney’s hands for nearly 80 years until former CEO Bob Iger brokered a deal to bring the character back home in 2006. In 2023, Oswald officially entered the public domain, opening the door for new interpretations like this series.
This marks the first major series starring Oswald under the Disney+ banner — and a new era for one of the company’s original icons.
Production is expected to begin soon.
